What Causes Bulimia? This will make your jaw drop!

When I was bulimic I racked my brains thinking about what causes bulimia... Even more specifically - what caused my bulimia...

I had so many different conclusions over the years...

It was only in my bulimia recovery - and in the years since - that I realized the TRUE cause of my bulimia (And what could have triggered your bulimia too!)

Do you ever feel like An Animal on the prowl, pre-programmed to Eat - eat - eat... No matter what!

What's that? Yes? You are definitely not alone!

I used to feel like I was completely out of control. From the moment I woke up in the morning to the moment I fell asleep at night, my thoughts were on food... How I could get it - and how I could get it out of me.

Food was always at the forefront of my mind...

As sad as this sounds, even when I was having sex with my partner, I'd be thinking "I can't wait until he falls asleep so I can raid the pantry"

Food came first in my life...

My pull to food was so strong that I thought this obsession would rule over my life - and eventually take my life too.

I thought I would spend my short life fighting this insane urge to eat absolutely everything in sight... Even stale old food I'd find on the car floor.

I thought I was a freak and I hated myself for it.

That was until I began to walk the road to recovery... :)

as I recovered from bulimia, I began to see Clearly What Caused my Food obsession...

Being bullied isn't what causes bulimia...

Having role models who are obsessed with thinness isn't directly what causes bulimia either...

Gymnastics didn't force me to the fridge in a binge eating frenzy...

And phew... I wasn't a hopeless nut case with no self control!

About 8 months into my bulimia recovery, I realized clearly for the first time what causes bulimia...

What turned me into this out of control eating machine was the fact that I had forced a 'famine' upon myself through dieting...

And, I'd been paying the price ever since!

I can sense the confused look on your face right now...

But think about it for a second...

Imagine a poverty stricken African child - deprived of food...

What would that child do if suddenly they had access to abundant food?

They would eat and eat and eat until they were sick...

In other words, they would binge.

I was no different to that hungry African child... And, if you're suffering from bulimia, chances are - you're no different either!

Our bodies don't know the difference between dieting and famine... Our bodies don't know that our lack of food is self imposed...

Our bodies believe that life is in danger and that food is scarce. In order to survive, we need to be on the lookout for food all the time!

This is called primal hunger - and it can be awakened inside every single human being on this planet by food restriction - or dieting!

So, what causes bulimia? It's simple...

Dieting causes bulimia!

Still not convinced? Read on...

In The Ancel Keys Study - Healthy Men Developed Bulimia As a direct Result of Food restriction!

The Ancel Keys study involved 36 men who were put on restrictive diets for 6 months. They were monitored closely to see what would happen to their physical and psychological health...

Many of these men developed binge eating disorders and some even had psychological breakdowns!

But most significantly, some of these men developed bulimia!

This is proof that for many people, dieting is the cause of bulimia!

I wrote a detailed article of this incredible study in one of my newsletters - It's definitely worth a read! Click here to open the article in a new window.

Learn How To Become Normal Eater Again!

We now know that dieting can cause primal hunger and that powerful drive to binge... If restricting your food causes this type of backlash - then it obviously can't be part of the solution to beat bulimia...

One of the keys to bulimia recovery lies in eating normal amounts of food every few hours, throughout the day. This is the only way to eliminate your sub conscious fear of hunger... It's called structured eating...

If you would like to read more about structured eating, I wrote about it in a past newsletter here.
