Want to Stop Bulimia? How Allowing Yourself To Eat Junk Food Will Help Get You There!

You may be thinking 'Surely eating junk food can't help stop bulimia!?' Perhaps you think I'm full of rubbish...

But read my bulimia story before you label me as mad...

Throughout my bulimia years, my most sought after 'junk food' was chocolate...

I would go on massive chocolate binges... Buying 3 or 4 king sized blocks from the local store...

I remember telling the storekeeper, time and time again - that it was for a party...

When it came to chocolate I felt like a drug addict... I told myself I wasn't allowed it... but, I felt as though I couldn't stop myself...

But... Guess what?

In my bulimia recovery, I had chocolate every single day!

How Did I manage to do this without Bingeing?

I simply planned it into my structured eating...

Following dinner every night, I'd eat 1/2 a bar of dairy milk chocolate. I'd eat it as slowly as I could and savour every bite...

Eating chocolate during my recovery was a reminder that my life of failed dieting, food restriction and out of control bingeing was over...

It was my way of saying to my body 'Your allowed to eat all types of foods - including 'junk' food'

By giving myself this permission to eat 'junk foods' - I was taking them off the pedestal that years of dieting and bulimia had placed them on...

Over time, they lost their magnetic pull... And, gradually I was able to end my bingeing and stop bulimia for good...

Now, I still enjoy chocolate a few times a week... But, that's more than enough. I don't want it so badly anymore... I no longer feel like it's my magic 'drug'...

Allowing myself total permission to eat chocolate actually helped me to stop bulimia!

It makes sense if you think about it... Most of the foods that you binge on are probably foods that you think you shouldn't have!

But, why shouldn't you have them?

Food is just energy - and that includes junk food!

Whoever that old man was, he was right when he said "All things are good in moderation"...

Bulimia makes life so complicated...

Before I managed to stop bulimia, this is the type of chocolate-related conversation that would go on in my head...

I want chocolate... But I'm not allowed it... Okay, I won't have it...

If I have it, I'll have to have it all...

I've had it all... Sh*t...

I'm disgusting... I'm a failure... I have to throw up...

Now my chocolate-related conversations go like this...

I want chocolate.

Okay, have some.

This bulimia free life is just so beautiful and simple!

And, guess what...

You can be free from the complications of bulimia too! We're no different...

It's just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other... If you do this, you can't help but get to where you want to go.

A Challenge For The Next 2 Weeks...

Try to add 1-2 'treat' foods into your daily structured eating plan...

Maybe a slice of apple pie for dessert? Or a mug of hot chocolate and a cookie for afternoon tea? It's up to you... Remember, you're allowed all types of food!

Remind yourself that you can eat whatever you want in moderation... All you have to do is work it into your structured eating plan...

Knowing you have unconditional permission to eat in this structured way will help you push binge urges aside and eventually stop bulimia altogether!

Wishing you love, happiness and RECOVERY :)
