No Period, bulimia and babies

by Anonymous

I was bulimic for a decade. I am now 28 and married. We want to start a family, but I don't get my period. Did you lose your period when you were still bulimic and if so how long until it came back? Because my husband and I have similar work schedules I was not able to binge and purge often, but the last time I did it was about a month ago and I knew then it had to be the last. I am suffering with constipation and the bloat. I feel gross. I am waiting for the probiotics to help! I am really worried that I have done permanent damage and will not be able to have a child.

Hi there :)

Congratulations on starting this exciting journey... Yes, it's early days - but you have to start somewhere! Once the bloating has gone away you will be feeling much better!

I lose my period for about a year when I was bulimic... Maybe more - I can't really remember. I won't be trying for children for another 2 years or so... So I am in the same boat as you are - hoping that I was left without damage...

What I can tell you is that our bodies are resilient! They bounce back! Give yourself the food and the nutrition you need - and I would think that having children will be a reality for you...

My best friend suffered from anorexia and bulimia too... She lost her period for some time... And, she is now just a few weeks away from giving birth to her first child!

Keep up your awesome work and I would expect you to be no different from her!
