Chipmunk cheeks in bulimia recovery

Hi, It's been 2 months and 3 weeks in total since i stopped purging.

The first month was hell. My cheeks were bloated and my stomach had a bulge and my eyes had dark bags!

But then on the second month of recovery the dark circles around my eyes disappeared and so did the swelling in my cheeks lessened but not fully gone.

I thought my recovery was going well until 2 weeks ago. My chipmunk cheeks came back and they were as huge as the first weeks of my recovery!

Im really worried about this.

I thought recovery helps... :( What does this mean?

Why did the bloating in my cheeks come back when i never even purged during those 2 months and 3 weeks of recovery?

Please help me. what can i do? Will water pills help or anything? I heard it can help with the water retention but i don't even know if its water retention or swelling of the glands. :(

Please hear me out... I cant take the teasing of my classmates in school.

Hi there,

It does sound strange that your 'chipmunk cheeks' have come back after 2 months and 3 weeks without bingeing and purging... I am not sure why this would have happened...

But... Keep in mind that bulimia causes a lot of stress to the body and it does take time to heal. Your body is probably still healing... Please, give it the time and the nutrition it needs to recover properly... it will happen!

Water pills won't help... But, if you are very concerned about it - perhaps visit your doctor and he may be able to suggest something.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Keep your chin up :)
