Bulimia Weight Issues: Will You Gain Weight In Your Bulimia Recovery?

Bulimia weight gain was the big issue on my mind...

I had been suffering from bulimia for 10 years and I'd had enough - I needed a life without it, but I was terrified of putting on a single pound!

Despite my fears, I pushed forward...

After many trials and errors I finally had my first day in over 5 years without throwing up! I was over the moon... I even high fived myself in bed that night!

I decided that this day would be the first of many more...

To help me out in the first week of my new binge and purge free life, I decided to stay far away from the scales!

I had been at my current 'bulimia weight' for 3 years and seeing the numbers go up would have spelt disaster...

Even gaining 1 or 2 pounds felt like it would have been the end of the world!

Staying away from the scales helped 1 day binge and purge free turn into 2 and then 3 and then 4,5,6 and 7!

On day 8 I felt comfortable enough to weigh myself...

I tried to prepare for what I might see - I knew I had probably gained some weight because my stomach felt so bloated.

I reminded myself '2 or 3 pounds won't kill you'...

And then, I stepped onto the scale...

It felt like I had been whacked over the head with a hammer!

'What the FUCK' I said out loud!

I'd put on 11 pounds in just 1 week!

I had so many questions I wanted answered...

I had thoughts of throwing in the towel and spending the rest of my life in the dark throws of bulimia...

I felt like I couldn't face any more weight gain!

But I also knew I couldn't face a lifetime of bulimia...

Somehow, I dug deep and found the strength to push forward with my bulimia recovery...

I am so glad that I did!

Now that I have beaten bulimia I can see exactly what caused my foul mouth on the scales that day!

Now that I have recovered, I understand what was happening to my body...

And the exact same thing could happen to you...

Allow me to explain (This could save you a whole lot of unnecessary worry!)

Bulimia Weight Gain - What's Actually Going On Inside Your Body during recovery

For so long, your body has been living on empty. It's been lacking in nutrients and it's been severely dehydrated...

When you eventually give your body the chance to digest food and drink, it goes into a frenzy...

From the very first bite and sip that is allowed to pass through your body, every single cell goes into party mode... It's time for them to heal and re-hydrate!

Basically what happens is that your cells (and there's millions of them!) go from being shriveled up depressed little guys to quenched and fully hydrated party animals!

All this internal action is good for you - but, the extra water in your body will change the numbers on the scale! When this happens to you, remind yourself that dehydration is one of the biggest killers in bulimia sufferers...

Your body is simply ensuring that this doesn't happen to you!

If you think about it, our bodies should be 72% water!

Before I began my new binge and purge free life, I had a bulimia weight of 56 kg's. I was extremely dehydrated and my body water percentage probably hovered at around 65%...

This means that I had about 36.5 kg's of water in my body (it sounds a lot but it's not enough!)

After my first week without bingeing or purging my weight skyrocketed to 61 kg's - I gained 5 kg's (11 pounds) in just 1 week.

BUT I now know that my body was re-hydrating itself...

Going up to normal hydration levels of 72% would mean I had 40.32 kg's of water in my body...

Already there's 8 pounds (4 kg's) of gained body weight accounted for...

PLUS, the food that was sitting in my tummy had a weight too... Realistically about 2 pounds.

As you can see, 10 our of the 11 pounds I gained were not fat!

Bulimia weight gain in recovery (and any bulimia weight loss when you first started purging) is often the result of fluid levels in your body going up or down!

Recovering from bulimia didn't change my body that much... And it won't change your body that much either!

I can tell you from experience that the small amount of weight you may gain is worth it a million times over!

Bulimia recovery is beautiful - and it's yours for the taking :)

Now here's a small challenge for you today...

Do one thing to get You a step closer to Your Recovery...

Here are some ideas which you could easily do today to help take a positive step AWAY from bulimia and TOWARDS bulimia recovery for life!

Or...

I promise that all your little steps will add up! If you keep putting one foot in front of the other - you will reach recovery :)
