Bulimia Relapses: 2 Tips to help you push through slips and fast track your Recovery...

At the start there will be speed bumps, there will be binges and purges, there will be bulimia relapses...

But, the key to complete, 100% bulimia recovery is knowing how to push through these hard times...

In my recovery, I learn 2 helpful tips to help me push through bulimia relapses. Here they are...

1) Replace criticism with curiosity...

Wonder why you relapsed rather than judge yourself for it...

Rather than criticizing yourself for slipping up, dig deep to find answers.

Doing this will help you figure out what made things go wrong.

It will help you to take a step forward rather than dwelling on, and getting upset over the past.

In the first rocky months of my recovery, I slipped up every single day...

My natural reaction to these slips was to fall into self criticism... But from past experiences, I knew that self criticism only made things worse...

So, I made the effort to persistently remind myself that slipping was okay.

Replacing criticism for curiosity helped me to come up with solutions rather than fall deeper into the cycle of bulimia.

As the months of recovery passed, I developed a deep curiosity over what triggered my bulimia relapses...

Slowly but surely, self criticism left me and this was when I began to make fast progress into my recovery.

2) Replace punishment for patience and persistence

Early on in my recovery, my natural reaction to slipping into a binge and purge cycle was to punish myself...

My weapon of choice for this self punishment was negative self talk...

But punishment doesn't help anything.

Punishing yourself will self abuse of any kind will only make you fall deeper into the cycle of bulimia...

Instead, try exchanging punishment for patience and persistence...

Remind yourself that overcoming bulimia will take time.

Be patient with yourself, just as you would be patient with a young child learning something new...

Be persistent... Keep getting back up no matter how many times you fall!

I didn't recover perfectly right away... Far from it...

I had bulimia relapses for months before I felt like I was beginning to get on top of them!

But look where patience and persistence got me...

To health, happiness and bulimia recovery :)

And by using these tips, you can get here too.
