Allow Me To Run - An Eating Disorder Poem

by Shaye
(New Zealand)

Do you ever feel like running?
Sprinting as fast as your body allows?
Away, further still, from all the shit of this world...
All the unwanted anger and pressure...
Away, to another world, where you can start a new...
Leaving all the mistakes behind, leaving all the hate.

I want to fly, soar, away from this world, away from my name.
Away from this body I'm stuck in, away from what I've caused myself...
I just want to run, sprint, soar, fly...
Anything to leave craziness of this hostile world!

Away, Out! I need to run, be free...
Please, ease the grip!
Allow me to hide...
May nobody find me...

But, may they seek me...
I need to be needed.

________

I wrote this eating disorder poem when I was in my early teens. I remember feeling like I just wanted to run away from everything! Bulimia had made my life too hard and I wanted to be able to start all over again...

I though I'd never overcome bulimia... But... As this website shows - eventually, I did!
